Acknowledgements

 Avis Brown is not only an icon, but she is with young girls of color like my daughters strive to be and look up to. She not only stands as a role model for girls of color but all girls alike I have had honor and privilege of knowing Avis for a few years now and her life's accomplishments and story or something we can all stand in awe of.  As a former NBA basketball player and current member of the Texas judiciary I can honestly say it is stories like Avis's that make this great country what it is today. 

  I have had the great privilege and honor to know Avis Brown and the Gordon Brown family throughout my years in San Diego and Southern California and the huge impact the Brown Family had, and has, on the game of golf in the major region. Avis carries on with the high passion and love for the game and sport of golf and brings those characteristics to everyone she encounters in the game and for the good of the game.  Avis is truly a champion and spends her life building champions around her.

  We are constantly looking for positive role models and those individuals who we can call Champions in Life. My friend Avis Brown is one of those inspiring individuals. As a champion golfer, she suddenly found herself facing her toughest round of golf ever, when she was faced with a life and death situation of battling breast cancer. To no one's surprise, she broke par and survived Breast Cancer. Avis shares her amazing journey of courage and her walk-in life with the world through her life story.

She is an African American woman golf trail blazer, but more importantly- she is a woman golf trail blazer who has blazed the trail for the next generation of young women golfers.

  When I reflect back on our friendship which spans 30 plus years...the words I'd use to best describe Avis Brown-Riley are strength, resolve and courage! 

Kissi Couture, Makenna and Morgan Rodriguez with gratitude and love endorse our friend and benevolent humanitarian, Avis Brown. Avis is on a mission endeavoring to make a global footprint for positive world change. She enlightens and educates, making mankind aware of all the positive contributions contributed by all ethnicities. She is an avid golfer and has offered a plethora of services to the golf community, sparking a fire of enthusiasm for minority girls in the golf arena. Avis is our Shero. 

As I reflect on our special friendship, I realize just how great GOD’s glory is. The Lord speared Avis's life for a reason; her walk-in life is a courageous and inspiring journey. She shares with the world that you must never give up, even when someone discourages you and prepare roadblocks in your path.
